The Town of Garching near Munich, with its districts of Dirnismaning, Hochbrück and Forschungsinstitute, is located north of the County of Munich and forms part of the administrative district of Upper Bavaria. To the south, Garching’s town area borders the capital of Bavaria, Munich; to the west, the Municipality of Oberschleissheim, to the north, the Municipality of Eching (County of Freising), and to the east, the Municipality of Ismaning.
Accessibility
Garching has two direct highway exits from the Highway A9 Munich - Nuremberg - Berlin. Via the nearby highway-junction München-Nord, you can access the Highway A8 direction Augsburg - Stuttgart or direction Salzburg in just a couple of minutes. The Highway A92 is the connection to the FJS airport and leads on to Landshut - Deggendorf. In October 2006, when the underground line to the Garching campus and research center was opened, the Town of Garching was connected to a means of public rail transport for the first time in its history. With the underground line U6, passengers can easily reach downtown Munich in approx. 20 minutes with trains running in 10 or 20-minute intervals. Garching is connected to the regional transportation network via the Federal Highways B11 and B471, and Hochbrück via the Federal Highways B13 and B471 respectively.
