At the time of its foundation in 1868, the former “Polytechnische Schule München” (Polytechnic School Munich) was situated in only one building in Munich’s Arcisstraße. Today, the twelve departments of the Technical University Munich are divided into the locations Munich, Garching and Freising-Weihenstephan. Each of them features its own special scientific profile and achieves top results in natural sciences and engineering, medical science and life sciences. With its departments of chemistry, computer sciences, mechanical engineering, mathematics and physics, the campus of Garching clearly focuses on engineering and natural sciences.
