As an internationally renowned research university, the Technical University Munich up to now offers unique fields of study in comparison with other European universities. With approx. 20,000 students, 20 percent of them from abroad, 440 male and female professors and approx. 8,500 employees, it ranks among the major universities of Germany.

At the time of its foundation in 1868, the former “Polytechnische Schule München” (Polytechnic School Munich) was situated in only one building in Munich’s Arcisstraße.
