On June 22, 1979, after a relatively short construction period, the cornerstone ceremony took place on July 28, 1977, and the community center of Garching near Munich was opened. With its form, function and charm, it definitely characterizes the town center of Garching, being its most important element of urban development. The community center as well as apartment houses and retail shops in pittoresque arcades surround the community square where various kinds of activities take place regularly, such as markets, concerts and street festivals.
The community center is the well-known cultural heart in the north of Munich. With its excellent program of theater, musical theater (opera, operetta, musical, ballet), concerts, children’s theater as well as a youth theater and political satire shows, it offers a balanced program for all tastes and categories for the citizens of Garching and its neighborhood. Exhibitions, balls, conferences and congresses also contribute to increasing the community center’s attraction as well as the appeal of the town of Garching.
The following premises are available at the community center:
- Large hall (multi-purpose hall seating max. 800 people)
- Small hall (seating max.150 people)
- Paul Klee Room
- Gabriele Münter Room
- Franz Marc Room
- Skittle alley with 4 alleys for approx. 55 people
- 10 airgun stands and banquettes with a cosy room seating approx. 40 people
- Restaurant “Bürgerstuben” (100 people) with an adjoining room (90 people) and
- “Ratskeller” (town hall restaurant, 80 people)
All halls and facilities are for hire for company events, associations’ functions as well as for family festivities.
