Lake Garching

During the construction of the motorway from 1936 to 1938, the extraction of gravel near the Hacklholz formed a quarry pond that passed into the municipality’s possession in 1965 and was turned into an idyllic lake for bathing in the seventies. The lake can be accessed via the motorway bridge near Egernfeld, via the road “Am See” or the parking lot of the sports center (click here for the road map). In 1987, the garden restaurant “Seehaus” was opened as an addition in order to create food and service facilities for those looking for recreation. On bathing days, lifeguards of the German life-saving association DLRG (Deutsche Lebensrettungsgesellschaft) are always on duty.
Since the year 2004, Lake Garching is considered
one of the cleanest bathing lakes in this region.

In 2003 and 2004, extensive redevelopment measures were taken for Garching’s bathing lake as well as for the area surrounding it. Approx. 25,000 m³ of sludge were extracted as well as approx. 70,000 m³ of gravel so that the depth of the water was increased from 2 meters to currently 5 meters. This measure doubtlessly turned Lake Garching into one of the cleanest bathing lakes in the region.
In addition, a new promenade was built around the lake that also serves as a supply road. Furthermore, sanitary facilities were improved, a new chidren’s playground as well as a beach volleyball court were constructed and the public park was enhanced. Out of consideration for the bathers, grilling is only permitted in the specially designated barbecue area at Lake Garching.

A new beach volleyball court was constructed, too,
and the public parks were enhanced.
