Societies and associations
Currently, there are more than 70 societies and associations plus an unknown number of unregistered associations and citizens’ action committees. Some of them can look back upon many years of tradition.
As a rule, they are based on the high level of commitment of their members and leaders with honorary posts. According to their functions, one can describe them as tradition-conserving, relating to the fine arts, folkloristic, promoting education and sports, charitable, self-helping, life-protecting or material-protecting, nature-conserving and political. The results are cultural activities that lend a vivid colorfulness to urban life. The municipality as well as the elected municipal officers support the existence and further development of these societies and associations.
