Beer gardens

There are just two traditional beer gardens in Garching where you only need to buy your drinks at the bar. You may bring your own food even though it is possible to order something from the menu: first, the beer garden with its idyllic location in the shade of chestnut trees in the center of Hochbrück. It was originally run by the voluntary fire brigade Hochbrück; today, the proprietor of the restaurant “Zur Brücke” runs it (address: Hochbrückenstraße 29, phone: +49 / (0)89 – 3 20 12 58). The second beer garden is “mills park” (Mühlenpark), very popular with the local population as well as with cyclists from the neighborhood (address: Mühlgasse 48, phone: +49 / (0)89 – 3 20 49 75). It was built on the grounds of a former mill in 1975. Depending on the weather, it is open daily from March to October, 10.00 am – 11 pm. Part of the seating area is roofed. In remembrance of the former mill, a reproduction of a water wheel turns in the Mühlbach brook that flows past the beer garden. A sign at the restaurant building informs you about the history of this place. Over a wooden bridge, you reach the children’s playground, a roller-skating rink as well as a small open-air theater. About 500 meters away, there are signposts for parking lots, either in town next to the local secondary school or next to the sportsfield (accessible via the old federal highway B 471).
When the weather is nice, several restaurants in Garching open their restaurant gardens for their guests. Another option is to enjoy the fine weather in one of the numerous street cafés.

The beer garden in the mills park has a very idyllic location.
